you would have heard something like this:
(Please read everything in italics with a sassy, 3-year-old girl attitude)
Edie, playing at my feet with a Care Bear and a pony: Mom!
Me: What?
Edie: I wasn't talkin to you, Mom. The pony is talkin to her mama.
Me: Oh. Sorry.
Edie, about a minute later: Mom! ...... Mom!
Me: What?
Edie: NOT YOU MOM! The bear isn't listenin to her girl!
Me: Sorry.
Edie, about another minute later: Mom! ...... Mom! ...... MOM!
Me: WHAT??
(I bet you already know where this is going.)
Edie: How come you never listen to me???
Boo, hoo!

First days back at school
School started for my boys last week. They love it. They love their teachers. They love seeing their friends every day. They love hot lunch. They love it all.
I love it, too. I love that I have a few hours to do stuff every day. I love that we have a schedule. I love that I'm happy to see my boys in the afternoon again.
This week I rededicated myself to yard work. I've realized that no one is going to come over and pull weeds or mow the lawn or plant flowers. If I want these things done, I have to do them. My excuses have run out. I'm no longer big and pregnant so I can bend over. I no longer have a newborn that requires every last bit of my energy so I have some to spare on the yard. I no longer have 4 kids at home all day that will surely get into trouble if left alone in the house for an hour or two or will definently run into the busy street if they're in the yard with me. Evan can be contained fairly well, and if Edie thinks she's helping (as in "Here Edie! I need this bucket filled with water and dumped out over and over again!") she's easy, too.
So every morning this week I've been out there. Pulling and mowing and spraying. It still doesn't look that great. But my green waste bin is full and the yard looks better than it did. When my front is weed-free I'm rewarding myself with a trip to the plant nursery to buy lots of flowers.
Here's a picture of Evan from after a weed-pulling session. He loves the swing! Too bad it's not a video. He was giggling all cute-like.

It might have been a good idea...
...if our area wasn't in the middle of an extreme drought.
After Bear Lake a couple weeks ago, I was excited to let the kids play at a lake again. I thought the last day of summer vacation would be a good day. We'd make a little party out of it. I invited lots of people. I'm glad now that only a few showed up. There was no lake. OK, not really. There was a puddle.
Here's our set-up. Can you see the old shore line miles away in the background? (Really about half a mile, go with me here, I'm exaggerating for dramatic effect)
We parked and schlepped all our gear through the sand to the mud.
Everyone made the best of a sad situation. Once we were used to the muddy smell, it wasn't all that bad. The boys discovered that the wagon would float, even with riders.
Conrad tried really hard to fill his bucket with mud.
Notice the deep footprints! All the kids were muddy up to their knees!
It wasn't all that bad. But I've got to figure out how to know if there's water in the lake before I'll try it again!

This week
Drew had a golf camp this week. For 2 hours a day, he and 11 other kids hung out at the local golf course with the pros there. They worked on their putting and driving, etc. But Drew's favorite part was that half way through each day, all the kids got a paper cup and they went into the club house restaurant and they got to fill it all the way full with whatever they wanted. Water. Or lemonade. Or soda. They could even mix the sodas! It was awesome!

Completely unrelated, but also blog-worthy, is Edie's hairdo today. I had to bribe her, hence the pouty look:
If she let me put the "pink tails" (Edie's term) in her hair, and left them in all morning until Daddy brought Drew home from golf camp so he could see, then Edie wouldn't have to take a nap today. As soon as they got home, she took the pink tails out. But she was darn cute all morning.

Best Vacation Ever!!, part 1
My kids have declared last week our "Best Vacation Ever!!" I have to agree.
We spent 4 days at Bear Lake with lots of cousins. The kids loved the beach where they created Mt. Mushington and it's twin peak, Mt. Squishington. They loved the boats and jet skis. Drew attempted water skiing and Dean put the pedal to the metal on the jet ski making Uncle Scott a little nervous. They loved the marshmallow shooters, thank you Elizabeth. They loved bingo. We were full of good food the whole time. Evan tried corn on the cob and loved it (what food doesn't he love?!)

The only thing I regret? I lost my paper that I wrote Michelle's number on and couldn't call her to arrange to meet up. (I'm sorry, Michelle!) That same paper had my bro-in-law's address in Ogden on it and I was supposed to take a box of baby clothes to them. Now I have to mail it. Oh well. The rest of the week was great!

Best Vacation Ever!!, part 2
At the Farm:
Saturday was Grandpa's and Roselle's birthday party. We spent Friday at the farm putting the finishing touches on the house and yard while the kids played. Grandma said that Sally did lots of fixing up in the last few months.
Saturday there were about 200 people there to celebrate with us. I didn't take any pictures on that day, so you'll just have to imagine all the fun. I think the Judkins won all the races and I've been humming "We are the Judkins, my friends!" for the last few days. Dad's DVD of Grandpa's old photos was awesome. Tyler and Jill as Grandma and Grandpa, the African Years was a hoot. Again, lots of food. Good times, good times.
Drew and Dean remember the farm from our previous trips, but it was all new to Edie. It was fun to watch her discover everything and have so much fun. She visited the cows multiple times and loved the play house. The boys didn't hardly ever leave the trampoline!

Best Vacation Ever!!, part 3
Before and after Bear Lake, the kids enjoyed playing at Nannie and Papa Cy's house with their cousins. They got this new swing set up just before we got there and the kids really loved playing on it. We had to have a grown-up out there with them because the ditch was full and dangerous, but that's OK. There were enough grown-ups to go around.

What am I missing?
Clothes & shoes for me plus 3 kids, including church clothes, play clothes, swim suits, green shirts for picture, pjs
Camp chairs
Ice chest
Pack 'n Play
Beach toys
DVD player for car plus movies
Snacks for car ride
Blankies & lovies
Camera
Phone numbers of Utah friends
Soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, hair brushes, blow dryer, make-up, etc.
There must be something I'm forgeting. I'm feeling like I'm going to leave something important behind and our otherwise fun and exciting trip will be ruined. What is it??
