I've finally emerged from the sewing room

I spent the last couple days in the sewing room on some projects. And I wasn't surprized to find the house torn apart when I finally came out. The kids are crazy when unsupervised. Well, really just Evan.

The first little project was a cage for Edie's new lion. Grandma & Grandpa bought each of the kids a book at the school's book fair while here for Grandparent's Day. Of course Edie choose a book that came with a little lion! The bag it came in was also a huge draw for her, but it fell apart the first night. So we went to the fabric store so she could choose the new look and "we" made her a new one. I think it turned out pretty cute, as long as you don't look too closely at the zipper. That was hard.

I should have worked on this project first because it was due today and I ended up having to write an apologetic email to the Silent Auction Lady, begging her forgivness for giving it to her tomorrow instead. It's part of Drew's class's contribution to the Silent Auction, an apron with all the kids' handprints on it. When I first imagined it, I thought, trace the hands, stitch around, iron on the sticky stuff and stick it on. Not too bad. Only I wasn't really thinking of that 34 times. It took so much longer than I was thinking, and my mom even did all the stitching around each hand! And then I bought lightweight, sewable sticky stuff, instead of the heavy-duty, iron-on-and-go stuff, so I had to stitch around every hand again so they wouldn't fall off. Bummer. But it's done now, and I love it. Too bad I'll have to pay for it at the Silent Auction if I want to keep it!

Next up: a lightweight dark-pink skirt for me. Because Heather is so smart and introduced me to wearing skirts in hot weather.

Too busy having fun, No time for blogging!

Lately it seems like every blog entry here is a list of things we've done in the last month or so. And today's is no exception. We're just so busy doing that there's no time for writing!

I could have titled this "Why We Love Our School" because all of our fun events recently have been through the school. We'll begin 2 weeks ago at the Jog-a-thon. It was a fund raiser to earn enough money to install new playground equipment and parents were encouraged to be there to cheer the joggers on. We did better than that. We jogged too! Actually, Edie and I jogged with the boys, Evan got a piggy-back ride.

Next is the fun Mother's Day breakfast at preschool with Edie, Katherine and Evan. Edie is hiding behind Katherine.

After the breakfast we were invited to stay for Preschool Idol. One of the moms brought in a karaoke machine and the kids took turns singing on "stage". We heard everything from ABCs to Hannah Montana. Edie, of course, refused to participate (and really, I can't blame her!) until the very end when most everyone had left and only then with a few friends.


And finally, the Science Fair. Not really what I would call a fun school event, but it took up enough family time that it deserves a place here on the blog. Drew just informed me that he made it to the Top 10 Projects and was interviewed by the principal today, but he doesn't get to go on to the District Science Fair. Oh well.
